AdmissionOn the curriculum of the police service, studies can be commenced by a fully legally competent Estonian citizen with a secondary education who is proficient in the Estonian language to the extent established by the law or a legal act issued on the basis of a law and meets the health and professional requirements of a police officer.
The studies on the basis of the distance study form can be commenced by the employees of internal security agencies who have the referral of the Police and Border Guard Board for commencing studies of professional higher education in the specialty of law enforcement police, the criminal police or border guards. Learning outcomesThe graduate:
- understands the principles of operation of society, the European Union, the State and the police organization; - operates pursuant to the fundamental values of the police organization and the ethical standards of a civil servant; - is guided by laws and regulations of Estonia and the EU and by human rights. Implements them based on the functions of the police organization; - implements the fundamental police activities according to the chosen field of study in the working environment; - recognizes the field of an offense and the area of responsibilities of various police agencies and other public sector organizations and institutions in police work and finds the necessary solutions to problems; - works independently and cooperates if necessary and is able to work in a multicultural environment; - communicates orally and in writing in the professional field in Estonian, Russian and English; - behaves assertively - having an effect of authority with his or her appearance, attitude and behavior; - can withstand the physical demands and stress, copes with his or her emotions and takes care of his or her health; - has verbal and written communication skills, finding the necessary information for police work; - has the ability of analysis and synthesis, is able to solve the problems emerging in police work; - is a self motivating learner and is capable of continually increasing his or her knowledge; - has organization and planning skills, is responsible.
