Description

Upon successful graduation from the curriculum of Master’s studies, the student:
- Is able to analyze and plan the need of the area of internal security and to manage activities and human resources by implementing contemporary management theories and practices;
- Is able to manage cross agency and international cooperation in the area of internal security being familiar with the system and the directions of development of public defense organizations and the legal acts of the field;
- Is competent in management activities and to practically work in specific areas of internal security and in the areas related thereto;
- Is able to facilitate cooperation on various levels;
- Is able to operate creatively, innovatively and flexibly in every work situation;
- Understands the peculiarities of the public sector and embodies the values characteristic to public service and to the area of internal security;
- Is able to perform academic and applied research and is able to continue studies in a Doctoral program;
- Is prepared and capable of professional development in the framework of life long learning and for advancing his or her knowledge and experience.

Admission

The prerequisite for commencing the studies on the Master’s level is a Bachelor’s level degree, professional higher education or an equivalent qualification and at least two year experience in the field of public defense.

Graduation conditions

The studies are completed with the defense of a Master’s thesis. A student who has successfully passed all the compulsory exams and assessments provided in the curriculum is allowed to defend his or her Master’s thesis.

Upon graduation, a diploma for completion of the curriculum and of being granted a Master’s degree together with an academic report in the Estonian and English languages are issued to the student.

Aim

The objective of the curriculum of the Master’s study is:
- To develop an international network of cooperation for the purpose of promoting education in the field of internal security on the Master’s level;
- To create for the students the opportunities for acquiring a Master’s level degree in the field of internal security;
- To raise the students’ competency of management in the field of internal security and organizations both on the strategic and on operational level for the purpose of ensuring the population with the level of safety meeting their needs and requirements;
- To shape in the students the readiness for performing research activity and for creation of new knowledge in the field of internal security;
- To create for the students the possibilities to continue their education in life long learning, including in the Doctoral study program.
