The objective of the curriculum of Corrections is to support the student’s formation of the knowledge, skills and values which:
• permit them to work at the official rank of a class II prison inspector as an inspector-contact person;
• are necessary for continuing the studies on the Master's level or through lifelong learning.
Upon completion of the curriculum of Corrections, the knowledge and the skills of the student meet the requirements set for Class II prison inspector established by the official rank 6 of the professional qualification.

On the specialty of Corrections, the studies can be commenced by a person who has a secondary education or an equivalent qualification from a foreign country and who meets the requirements set for a prison officer candidate in the Public Service Act § 14 and § 16 and Imprisonment Act § 113 -§ 116 and masters the Estonian language at the level of C1.

The conditions for graduation are as follows:
• completion of all the subjects and internships provided in the curriculum and defending an imprisonment related research paper for a positive outcome;
• passing the imprisonment related final exam for a positive result.

Diploma of Professional Higher Education

Upon successful completion, a diploma of professional higher education and an academic transcript in Estonian and English are issued.

The graduate:
- has thorough knowledge of the legal acts regulating imprisonment and prison service;
- can contribute to the achieving of the aims of imprisonment, prevent and impede disobedience, escaping and other emergency situations, and liquidate the consequences of the latter;
- has knowledge about inmates’ rights and obligations and can guarantee the following of them;
- has knowledge about the principles of the organisation and control of surveillance in prison;
- has knowledge about the work and usage of security systems in prison;
- can use personal protective equipment, gas weapons, cut-and-thrust weapons, restraint measures, physical force and the special equipment stated in the job description, has thorough knowledge of the legal acts regulating the use of the aforementioned;
- follows a prison officer’s code of ethics, knows the rules regarding the wearing of uniforms and follows them;
- is assertive, has good communication skills, can resolve conflicts and is ready to cooperate with colleagues and other people involved;
- knows the fundamental laws of the state, including the constitution and constitutional acts and human rights, and the legal acts regulating the organisation of public administration and public service;
- knows the bases of operations procedure;
- has thorough knowledge of the laws of the European Union regarding prisons;
- has knowledge of the general principles and opportunities of the implementation of information technology, can use a computer and computer programs necessary for work;
- can use databases necessary for the job;
- their Estonian language skills are on C1 level, or on a level equal to that, can also speak one foreign language on B1 level or on a level equal to that, and masters professional vocabulary.
