DescriptionThe objective of professional higher education of the police service is:
• preparation of competent and active policing specialists based on the needs of the police organization as the customer; • to support the students on acquisition of the competences required to resume their studies in the Master's program. AdmissionOn the curriculum of the police service, studies can be commenced by a fully legally competent Estonian citizen with a secondary education who is proficient in the Estonian language to the extent established by the law or a legal act issued on the basis of a law and meets the health and professional requirements of a police officer.
A person applying for a student place in the curriculum of Police Service must undergo a medical examination stipulated for a police officer. The medical examination of the person applying for a student place in the curriculum of police officer is provided by the means of the state budget. Graduation conditionsGraduation requirements:
• Completion of all the subjects and internships provided in the curriculum for a positive outcome. • Defending of the graduation or performance of the graduation examination for a positive result. Degreerakenduskõrgharidusõppe diplom
(Diploma of Professional Higher Education) Graduation documentOn completion is issued a diploma of professional higher education and an academic transcript in Estonian and English.
Upon completion of the specialty of a Border Guard, also a professional certificate is issued. AimThe objective of professional higher education of the police service is:

Study optionsIn the framework of the curriculum are available the following options:
1) In the block of professional subjects are three specialties - border guard, criminal police or law enforcement police. The selection is carried out taking into account the wishes, the academic success and the needs of employers. For the students of the distant study form, the selection is performed taking into account the desires of the police officer and the needs of the employer and this is noted in the student's application and in the referral of the Police and Border Guard Board; 2) The student can choose elective and optional subjects from the module of elective subjects in the capacity of 6.0 ECTS. Their selection is based on the student’s ability and their adequacy in using his or her computer, on achievement of compulsory subjects, learning outcomes and on personal interest. - understands the principles of operation of society, the European Union, the State and the police organization; - operates pursuant to the fundamental values of the police organization and the ethical standards of a civil servant; - is guided by laws and regulations of Estonia and the EU and by human rights. Implements them based on the functions of the police organization; - implements the fundamental police activities according to the chosen field of study in the working environment; - recognizes the field of an offense and the area of responsibilities of various police agencies and other public sector organizations and institutions in police work and finds the necessary solutions to problems; - works independently and cooperates if necessary and is able to work in a multicultural environment; - communicates orally and in writing in the professional field in Estonian, Russian and English; - behaves assertively - having an effect of authority with his or her appearance, attitude and behavior; - can withstand the physical demands and stress, copes with his or her emotions and takes care of his or her health; - has verbal and written communication skills, finding the necessary information for police work; - has the ability of analysis and synthesis, is able to solve the problems emerging in police work; - is a self motivating learner and is capable of continually increasing his or her knowledge; - has organization and planning skills, is responsible.
