Description

The objectives of the curriculum of the Rescue service are as follows:
• create opportunities for the application of modern emergency services for higher education;
• to support formation in the students of the knowledge, skills and values which are necessary to pursue further studies at the Master's level.
• to create opportunities for students to commence their employment as professional and energetic rescue servants/officers.

Admission

The person applying for the specialty of Rescue Service must meet the following requirements:
• the requirements set for state or local government officials in the Public Service Act, including to be a citizen of the Republic of Estonia and in terms of their mental and personality traits to be suitable for public service and to comply with health and physical training requirements pursuant to legislation;
• the requirements set for the student in the Institutions of the Professional Higher Education Act, including to have a secondary education, or equivalent qualifications.

Graduation conditions

Graduation requirements:

The studies end with the defending of a thesis. The graduation thesis is a practical-oriented empirical or analytical research, the compilation of which will contribute to deepening the student's professional knowledge and shows the student's ability to see problems, use their acquired knowledge and practical experience, to analyze and generalize the used materials, to formulate their ideas and to present them in the proper form. The student who has submitted a thesis in accordance with approved procedures is allowed to the defending the graduation thesis.

On completion, a diploma of professional higher education and an academic transcript in Estonian and English are issued.

Study options

The students may choose elective and optional subjects in the module of elective subjects in the capacity of 3.0 ECTS both in the language of instruction as well as in a foreign language.

In the second academic year, specialization into an operational or preventive specialty takes place. Specialization is done through internships and the students can choose which area they wish to work in the future.

Learning outcomes

The graduate:
- can understand the factors influencing human behavior, management and organization, behavioral principles, statehood, economic and operational concepts of public administration;
- knows the legal norms and knows how to use the Estonian and the EU legal system;
- prepares independently and critically a variety of research in accordance with the guidelines for written work of EASS;
- is able to mathematically model and analyze professional problems and resolve them on the basis of modern information technology tools;
- is able to apply engineering and technological knowledge for acquisition of professional subjects and in professional work;
- is able to deal with hazardous substances and is familiar with combustion processes;
- is able to carry out rescue work at the professional level II of a rescuer;
- knows how to conduct training and manage rescue work at level III of a rescue specialist;
- is able to exercise fire safety-related supervision at level III of a rescue inspector and to organize prevention work;
- is able to plan the preparedness of the state and other enterprises for major disasters;
- knows the current problems of the rescue field and is able to analyze and evaluate their solutions.
