Subject 'Professional English in the Field of Internal Security (B2 Level)'Name in Estonian: Erialane inglise keel sisejulgeoleku valdkonnas
AimThe objective of the subject is to provide the students with the vocabulary and phraseology necessary for discussing world issues and security related matters and to equip the learners with verbal tools for participation in various workshops, trainings, conferences and debates on relevant topics. During the course, students will also acquire skills for composing academic texts and making presentations.
Form description1. General academic vocabulary
2. Linking words and composition of written sentences 3. Presenting an argument 4. Expressing opinions 5. Agreeing and disagreeing 6. Questioning 7. Making proposals 8. Writing various official letters 9. Making presentations 10. Specific internal security related vocabulary through the following topics of discussion: • International Cooperation • Negotiation and Mediation • Immigration and Racism • Transnational crime • Police/rescue/corrections/border guard • Unemployment • Poverty/slavery/forced labor • Women’s rights/gender equality • Urbanization • Language discrimination • Environmental issues (global warming/renewable energy) • Human rights violations Study outcome1. The learners will have acquired an extensive word bank on academic and internal security topics through reading and analysing the speciality-related texts.
